Tsebo Celebrates 50 Years Of Developing, Serving, & Uplifting Society

Over the last 50 years, Tsebo has built a legacy of service, innovation and growth.

Since 1971, we have found ways to empower our people and uplift our communities, thus bridging the gap between employer and employee. Our purpose to ‘WE DEVELOP PEOPLE, TO SERVE PEOPLE, TO UPLIFT SOCIETY’ through all that we do is part of the legacy we have built, and it will be part of everything we do in the future.

To celebrate our Golden Jubilee, we will be honouring the achievements of the past half-century, celebrating some of the people who’ve made it possible, and looking forward to the next 50 years.

WE DEVELOP PEOPLE, TO SERVE PEOPLE, TO UPLIFT SOCIETY

Our success didn’t happen overnight. It might be hard to picture, but the company you know today evolved from a 1971 catering contract. Fedics pioneered the contract catering industry in South Africa, and in 1983 implemented its first affirmative action programme, indicating its commitment to progressive management and transformation. It was the launch of the Fedics Institute for Hospitality Studies in 1994 that grew into Tsebo’s current in-house Learning and Development Academy.

Also in 1994 we were awarded Sancorp’s Investor in People Award, followed by the Black Management Forum’s Most Progressive Company of the Year Award in 1995. These milestones remain some of our most cherished accomplishments because they reflect our commitment to progressive management and transformation, and to developing our employees.

Meanwhile, Tsebo, as we know it today, was evolving into a large-scale integrated workplace management solutions company by increasing its scope of services and its footprint across Africa.

We have also scaled up and entered new sectors, resulting in 12 acquisitions in five years, with multiple international and pan-African clients, and new markets in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Nigeria, Lesotho, Egypt and more.

Our Golden Jubilee comes in the same year that we celebrate our new authentically African shareholders: Investec, Nedbank, Khulasande, NinetyOne and Standard Chartered. We are also proud to have retained and strengthened our Level 1 B-BBEE status with growth in our black ownership (BO) and black women ownership (BWO) elements to 54.4% and 45.6%, respectively. Furthermore, we have introduced a host of exciting, innovative solutions such as Tsebo Mobile, Vacant Property Solutions, app-based food ordering and delivery, Aerial Surveillance Solutions and our second state-of-the-art National Control and Command Centre (NCC), to name a few.

At the end of the day, we want to leave a legacy that speaks to all the good we do and have done for the people whose lives we touch. We want to uplift and enrich lives while instilling a sense of purpose and ambition.

Creating a difference takes time, and if we look at what Tsebo has accomplished over the past 50 years, we can say with certainty that it was worth it. Here’s to the next 50 years and beyond.
