Recognition is a powerful way of reinforcing positive behaviour and honouring those who have delivered outstanding performance. We want all Tsebo employees to be proud ambassadors of our brand. We therefore aim to inspire our employees to ‘live’ our values and recognise our employees for displaying these desired behaviours.

Trevor Engel, Service Manager – Hygiene, in our Cleaning & Hygiene Solutions business, is recognized for living the value of ENTERPRISING in March 2021. Trevor is a highly respected member of the Hygiene and Pest Control service industry, spanning a couple of decades. He has gained respect from clients, staff, co-workers, and management alike. Trevor’s professionalism and charisma are key in cementing solid relationships with clients who trust and respect him – creating a competitive advantage for the business.
On 1 March 2021, Trevor cancelled his 58th birthday celebration weekend with his family to travel to the Eastern Cape to oversee the installation for a large new automotive contract in East London. Trevor is exceptionally dedicated to his work and has a solid work ethic. His wealth of experience, skills set and unrelenting work ethic is an asset to the Tsebo Solutions Group.
Nonhlanhla Matshediso, Learning and Development Facilitator for Tsebo Catering, has been recognised for living the value of CARING in November 2020. The learnership group describe her as: “… the best, always caring, ready to support, guide and share learnings.”
Nonhlanhla joined Tsebo Learning and Development after finishing a Tsebo learnership for People with Disabilities (PWDs). Her responsibility is to recruit and train all Catering learners living with a disability. She personally visits special-needs schools in Gauteng where she talks to the learners and their parents about Tsebo’s learnership programmes. The learners think of her as their “second mother” and Nonhlanhla makes it her responsibility to look after each learner and communicate regularly with them and their parents. This caring attitude was recognised by the parents of the learners in December 2019, when they handed her a gift in gratitude at the PWDs graduation ceremony.
Her caring attitude continued over the COVID-19 hard lockdown when she communicated daily with learners to check that they were safe and following the necessary safety protocols. She also introduced an initiative to train learners via online platforms and WhatsApp, which kept the learnership on track for 2020.
Eleanore Koopman, Tsebo Catering Manager, and Bertram Mehl, Tsebo Bookkeeper, at one of South Africa's top petroleum brands, are recognised for living the value of CARING in November 2020. Both employees faced a number of challenges over the COVID-19 lockdown and had to enforce compliance with the regulations as well as the continuous sanitisation of areas while ensuring timeous service delivery.
Furthermore, they had to set up counselling sessions, memorial services and keep themselves and their team motivated after an incident resulted in the deaths of two colleagues. Eleanore and Bretram lived the value of CARING by putting others before themselves and staying strong and motivated over a challenging period. They are a true example of how Tsebo continues to deliver excellent service to clients regardless of the challenges.

Thabo Mothobi, Tsebo Compliance and HSE Manager working at a multinational banking client in Botswana, is recognised for living the value of DILIGENT in November 2020. Thabo was responsible for implementing COVID-19 regulations and control measures for the client, countrywide.
Thabo created awareness through regular employee broadcasts, teleconferencing with the branches and vendor engagements. At one point, he completed a full weekend run by visiting all off-site and remote ATMs (covering more than 300km) to create awareness among the security guards manning the sites. He even went as far as educating the customers who were queuing at the ATMs.
He ensured the safety of employees and customers by ensuring social distancing, hygiene measures and determining whether all necessary infection controls measures were in place. Regulatory and health inspection officers have been conducting spot checks and all our premises have been found to be compliant.
Despite the ever-changing government rules and uncertainties presented by COVID-19, Thabo’s commitment and ethics remained intact, to the point that he made himself available over weekends and in the evenings to ensure that all regulations and restrictions were observed, even when they were announced at short notice.
Aziba Sambo, ATS Restaurant Supervisor at a large mining company in Ghana, is recognised for living the value of ENTERPRISING in November 2020.
As a result of COVID-19, employees at the mine were afraid to come out for lunch or dinner, which had an impact on the number of meals served daily.
Aziba took the initiative to call employees and take their orders telephonically before personally delivering the meals to their houses.
ATS received compliments from the client, thanks to Aziba who identified a barrier and worked around it.
Farai Mapfuti, Tsebo Head Waiter; Amanda Mhundwa, Tsebo Catering Manager; and Ignatous Makoni, Tsebo Production Chef, at a regulatory authority in Zimbabwe, have been recognised for living the value of ENTERPRISING in November 2020.
Despite a challenging start with the client, this team remained energetic and continuously showed their readiness to serve.
The client had previously used another catering company for their special occasions, but on persuasion from the Chef, gave Tsebo an opportunity to cater for a board meeting in April, which the team executed to perfection. All aspects of the event were well handled and the team received several compliments after the meeting, with the result that they are catering for all board meetings going forward - even those which include the Minister of Information in the Office of the President.
This has had a positive impact on the overall earnings of the unit.
Jose Tembe, Tsebo Housekeeping Supervisor; Jose Mavota, Tsebo Maintenance Technician; and Vasco Mondlane, Tsebo R&M Supervisor, stationed at a well-known brewing company in Mozambique are recognised for living the value of INTEGRITY in November 2020.
This team excels in their responsibilities by always adding something unexpected and positive – instead of just serving coffee, they’ll serve coffee with a cookie.
On a day when the client had fumigation planned, the team realised that there was no one on-site to let the fumigators in, or to close up after them. In addition, some of the clients' storage rooms were left unlocked. While the fumigation team went about their jobs, Jose Tembe, Jose Mavota and Vasco Mondlane remained on-site and kept watch over the storage rooms for three hours until the client’s employee arrived to lock the storerooms.
The client rewarded them that evening with a hot meal served by the canteen. By putting the client’s needs first and showing their commitment, they lived the value of INTEGRITY.
Osman Leigh, ATS Laundry Supervisor at a large mining company in Sierra Leone, is recognised for living the value of INTEGRITY in November 2020.
On 10 June 2020, while Osman was checking the laundry for forgotten documents or ornaments, he discovered $400 in the security manager’s pocket, which he handed to site management. The security manager was called, and his money was returned to him.
The result has been that the client’s confidence in ATS has increased, with the client noting that ATS employees are diligent, dependable and a force to be reckoned with. Osman was commended in a meeting where he was recognised for his act of honesty.
Osman’s exemplary attitude is a matter of pride among his colleagues who are pleased to identify themselves with an organisation with trustworthy and dependable workers.
